I've worked with a variety of hardware and software in my time at Continental Tire. On the networking side I've managed many varieties of Microsoft Windows, including NT, 2000, 2000 Server, XP, and 2003 Server. Other operating systems include Novell Netware and several varieties of Linux and Unix.

I've gotten a lot of experience working with hardware as well. PCs, HP Laser Printers, barcode scanners, tag printers, and diskless workstations have all come into play at one time or another. Redoing the entire network, upgrading the old hubs to a fully switched environment was a real learning experience in planning and rolling out such a large scale networking project.

Recently, I've spent most of my time programming. Mostly in Microsoft Access and Excel, developing back end data systems to help make our plant more productive. In 2004 I designed a database to manage the warehouse system, which was subsequently put into place in other locations and is serving as a guide for the new system.

I also manage a few other servers and systems. I've developed and administer the plant intranet web site, a diskless workstation information kiosk system, and a MS-SQL Server that is used in various departments for production data.

Overall I feel my biggest assets don't have to do with technology at all. I make an effort to work with the users to find out what they really need and provide it, without drowning them in tech-speak. Being able to communicate in plain English and provide solutions has been a great asset. And finally I enjoy learning about and exploring new tools and technology. That makes it a lot easier to adapt in the always changing IT world.
